Calcium Silicate Boards

Calcium silicate boards are non-asbestos, high temperature structural insulating boards that exhibit good thermal shock resistance and stability, consistently low thermal conductivity, high structural strength at elevated temperatures, incombustibility, electrical insulating properties when dry, excellent machinability, insolubility in water, and non-corroding properties.

What is Marinite used for?

Marinite boards are heat treated formulations making it the ideal material for conveying, containing, handling and forming molten aluminum and other non-ferrous metals. Made of fibers, micro silica and a hydrothermally-produced inorganic binder, the high heat treatment removes excess water, and minimizes shrinkage that would normally occur in service.

Recommended Replacement for Marinite
BNZ Materials has discontinued the Marinite® product line. For customers requiring ongoing supply, Hi-Temp recommends Promat® calcium silicate boards as direct replacement materials for most Marinite applications. Promat products provide comparable thermal insulation performance, mechanical strength, machinability, and temperature resistance while remaining actively manufactured and available for long-term projects.
 

What are common applications for Marinite/Promat® Materials?

Examples include oven walls and linings, soldering insulation, fire doors, fire training burn buildings, cable trays, personnel protection, and as USCG-approved insulation for marine ships and off-shore rigs. Back-up insulation applications include ladles, torpedo cars and tundishes in the iron and steel industry, lime and cement plant rotary kilns, and aluminum die cast holding furnaces.

Marinite A / MONALITE® M1AT

Marinite A is a strong, machinable, non-asbestos inorganic insulation panel for conveying, containing, handling, and forming molten aluminum and other non-ferrous metals. The hardest of the Marinite boards. Promat MONALITE® M1AT is the closest modern equivalent, providing comparable performance in molten aluminum contact applications with improved temperature capability and dimensional stability.

Application: Floats, spouts, stopper pins, distribution boxes, dams, baffles, filter boxes, troughs, head boxes, transition plates, hot top rings, aluminum holding, die-cast furnaces.

Characteristics: Metals do not adhere, even when cooled and solidified. Will not contaminate metals and requires no facing wash. Conveys metals with less heat loss and at a uniform temperature requiring a lower handling temperature.

Marinite C / MONALITE® M1T

Marinite C is a strong, machinable, non-asbestos inorganic panel for conveying, containing, handling and forming molten aluminum and non-ferrous metals. Promat MONALITE® M1T is the recommended replacement, offering similar non-wetting performance, excellent machinability, improved dimensional stability, and higher strength for molten metal contact applications.

Marinite P / MONOLUX®

Marinite P is a non-asbestos incombustible self-supporting board with insulating values, fire safety and exceptionally high compressive strength. Promat MONOLUX® is the recommended replacement, offering nearly identical density, comparable thermal insulation performance, excellent machinability, high mechanical strength, and continued availability for demanding structural insulation applications.

Application: Platen press operations, foundry core pallets, back-up insulation for rotary kilns and steel ladles.

Characteristics: Formed from calcium silicate with inert fillers and reinforcing agents. Structural strength and thermal insulation in one board.

Sheet Size: 48 x 96; 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1-1/2 and 2” thicknesses

Thickness tolerance: Marinite +/- 1/32″; MONOLUX® ±0.4 mm.

Density: 60 pcf

Operating Temperature: Marinite –  1800°F / MONOLUX® – 1832°F

Marinite I / PROMATECT®-MST

Marinite I is a non-asbestos, structurally strong incombustible panel designed with structural strength and high thermal insulating properties. Promat PROMATECT®-MST is the recommended replacement, offering comparable thermal insulation performance, excellent dimensional stability, low thermal conductivity, moisture resistance, and continued availability for ovens, dryers, heat shields, and insulating housings.

Application: For the construction of ovens, dryers, and insulating housings for the retention and control of heat. Can be machined to create heat baffles and insulating parts.

Characteristics: Formed from calcium silicate with inert fillers and reinforcing agents. An easily erected material that provides structure and insulation. Resistant to damage, corrosion and water.

Sheet Size: 48 x 96; 1/2, 3/4, 7/8, 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2, 2 and 3” thicknesses

Thickness tolerance: Marinite +/- 1/32″; PROMATECT®-MST ±0.4 mm.
